Full description
The Disco-Baller
A real meteorite dial that breaks up the light the way a mirror tile does.
I'm Matt; a few of us build these by hand in a shop in Portland. This one started with a disco ball I printed over the summer so a watch could ship inside it, and I kept picking it up and turning it because of what the tiles were doing to the light in the room.
LCD Soundsystem has been my favorite band for about fifteen years; I found them in my early twenties when I was living in Brooklyn, and I planned my first trip to Europe around one show at Alexandra Palace for my 30th. This August they played Edgefield, about twenty minutes from our shop, so I built the band watches. James Murphy's has a dial cut from real iron meteorite, and I called it the Disco Infiltrator, after the song. I 3D printed a disco ball big enough to hold it and handed it to his crew at the show.
When that watch was done it was so good I couldn't stand giving away the only one, so I built myself one almost like it. That's the Disco-Baller.
The dial is cut from an iron meteorite and etched to bring out the Widmanstätten pattern, a crosshatch that formed while the metal cooled over millions of years, so no two dials are the same. The logo and the wordmark sit on top of it, and it comes on the Presidential bracelet, which is the thing people ask me about more than anything else we make.
It comes in 39mm or 36mm, with a Japanese NH35 or a Swiss Sellita SW200-1. It's a pre-order, and the build window is 3 to 4 weeks from the day you order; if that moves, you'll hear it from me.
Every photo on this page is this actual watch, shot in the shop.
